America's post-pandemic paradox is clear: The economy keeps adding jobs, but the supply of homes keeps falling short. By most estimates, the U.S. faces a deficit of at least 4 million housing units. That gap drives bidding wars for starter homes, forces rents higher than wages can keep up with and leaves employers struggling to hire in places their workers can no longer afford to live.
